The Tintype Studio
Conceptualized in the summer of 2010 while on a camping trip in Northern Ontario, four friends decided they wanted to work together on a project that would revisit a chapter in the history of photography.
Their plans soon morphed into The Tintype Studio, a collective that revisits the craft of the wet-plate collodion process and the historical photographic tradition of creating a tintype — a unique image on a metal surface. The Tintype Studio revives this process in its traditional context, by offering the public a fun and retro take on the instant photograph. The Tintype Studio's portrait service gives the public a chance to take home a piece of history.
We only run portrait sessions once every couple months. Please check our events page for upcoming sessions.
We are located in Hamilton, Ontario.
